Bring on the cake…wedding fun

Weddings, oh the joyous and wondrous celebrations they are! The blending of 2 families together, the joining of 2 lives together, and the exciting beginnings, oh, and let us not forget…that cake!

I love me some good weddings! I still get all sentimental everytime I look at my own wedding dress hanging in my closet, and yes that was 15 years ago and it is still there. I even tried it on a while back and danced around in it with my children. It was silly, but it was so much fun! There is so much joy, and hope in the adventure of life, and celebrating with family, friends and food really could not be a better way to make the start of a life perfect.

As a bakery owner, we have had the blessed opportunity to be a part of many weddings, showers, and parties. As many of you know, we love all the festivities that go along with it.

Some of the most cherished times, for me, is when I am asked to do a wedding or shower of a friend or family member. That way I also get the added fun of seeing and hearing all the oohs and ahhhs over how yummy gluten free can be! I love that by the way!

jessi wedding For me, this summer and upcoming fall, I have had the privilege of being a part of my nieces upcoming wedding. From cupcakes to cakes, Mixin’ It Up will have had the opportunity to cater them all! It has been such a joy to bring our love of all things gluten free to family members far and wide. I inserted a photo of the cupcake tower we made the lovely bride, for one of her showers, and what a fun and yummy day it was!

So if you have upcoming wedding plans, and are wondering where to go to get a wedding cake, or cupcakes, we are the place! We love to be a part of your celebrations and help to make your memories even more sweet!

Summertime ~ Takin It Easy

Don’t you just love summer. The sun on your face, the smiles and squeals of your children running through the sprinkler, or jumping into that swimming pool. What about the grill outs, camp outs, and long summer nights by the campfire… ahhhh.

One of my favorite memories growing up as a child was going to the beach. Oh the days of laying in the sun, back then of course with no sunscreen in sight!, and cooling off by jumping in that refreshing water. Oh yes, and the treats! Those I loved too.

We would pack a cooler filled with sandwiches, snacks and all sorts of yummies and just sit back and enjoy the lazy days of summer. Ahh, I can feel the waves even now.

Sometimes for those of us who are gluten free, or have other food allergies, a day out, whether it is at the beach, at the ballfield, or on a weekend camping trip turns into endless hours of prepping, planning and oftentimes frustration. You are not alone my fellow food sensitive people!!! I am right there with you!!

We can not control the world around us, and we can not control others peoples understanding of our sensitivities, so pack we must! For all occasions, for all celebrations, and for the safety of our loved ones!

Before you start gearing up for that next round of camping, ballfields, and family reunions, make your life easier and give us a call. From breakfast through dinner we are here to help!

Wake up to cinnamon and caramel rolls, or coffee cake muffins. We have dollar buns, hot dog & hamburger buns, and fresh loaves of the softest bread around. What about pizza over the campfire, and mix that with our garlic bread and cupcake special and you have yourself a gluten free meal for $20.00. And do not forget grab and go cakes, cupcakes and cookies!! All here for you to enjoy! Don’t worry, if you cant stop in, we also ship!!

We want to help share in the journey, and this is our way to help make some of that a little easier! So give us a call, and we can help to make packing up those coolers a whole lot more enjoyable!

Hip Hip Hooray! Its National Donut Day!

Weekend Brunch Special (1)

Remember the days of running down to the local gas station and grabbing a donut that melts in your mouth?

How about a camping weekend with mom and dad, or grandma and grandpa, and opening up a bag of those cake donuts or donut holes that were just the icing on the camping trip cake? I do!

I also remember the feeling I had in the pit of my stomach, after going gluten free, standing in front of a display case, staring at rows upon rows of that glorious donut goodness and realizing that there was a distinct possibility that I would never wrap my hands around a warm, melt in my mouth, donut again.

When we opened up Mixin’ It Up, our goal was to recreate those food memories for you, and your family, and do it Celiac Safe so there was no worry EVER, about your family getting sick.

We knew to make that dream come true, donuts had to be a part of the menu. Deep fried, sink your mouth into, memory provoking donuts has been our mission. We can say with these donuts being our Number 1 summer seller, we are pretty sure you love them as much as we do!

Stop in June 7th for National Donut day and enjoy buying 6 donuts and getting 6 free! Or stop in anytime all summer long, and be ready to sink your teeth into the best deep fried GLUTEN FREE donuts in all of Minnesota!  Remember if you live to far away, we overnight ship these amazing donuts as well!

Celebrating a Month of Celiac

celiacawarenessmonthWhen one thinks of an autoimmune disease, they dont usually align that word with celebration.  Typically, I agree, however there are times when perhaps celebrating is not only appropriate but frankly needed in the face of life’s journey and challenges.

May is Celiac awareness month, and for this one month, the light of Celiac and autoimmune disease in general signs just a little brighter and it gives a platform to use to educate people on the challenges, symptoms, struggles and triumphs of Celiac disease (yes there are some joys, like not feeling sick all the time once you know what you are eating is hurting you).

More people are getting diagnosed with Celiac, and as we all know, many Americans live with undiagnosed Celiac disease and suffer without knowing or understanding what this disease is doing to their bodies.

When we started the gluten free journey in our own world, in our family, few people had really heard of Celiac, and even worse, most people thought that Gluten Free was some sort of fad and buzz word. While it has taken some time and A LOT of education, more and more people are understanding what the disease IS and what it is not.

It is not made up, it is not something that can be “taken lightly” and it is not something that you can “have just a little of” (no you can not have just a little gluten in something you will get sick!)

As the month of May comes to a close, and the battle for many lives on day after day, we wanted to take a moment and remind you of a few things.  The most important is that you do not battle alone. Across the state there are more and more Celiac safe facilities that are working to make sure your food is safe.  There are communities of people who are battling the same things day in and out as you are, and there is continuously more awareness around what Celiac and other autoimmune disease are and do our bodies.

Most importantly: there are people who care, really care, just come in to the bakery and you will find people always on staff more than willing to share a smile and a listening ear (sometimes some advice).

We must keep fighting the battle of awareness for our kids, grandkids, family members and ourselves.

Finally, there are many things to be grateful for, because in the moment Celiac disease is frustrating, but it doesn’t have to be the definition of our life… (it is not the explanation point, only a comma in life’s storybook we are living) we still and always get to chose the kind of person we are, the kind of life we life and the gratitude in our hearts, and the joy, kindness, and compassion we get to share from our life experiences on to others.

Battle on Celiac Disease warriors, Mixin’ It Up Gluten Free Bakery, and others like us are here not only as a place to provide you with safe and healthy (and tasty!) food but to link arms with you and remind you, you never have to battle alone. There is support, and there is hope…Always!
